Updates

Notable changes to aldenv, most recent release first.

aldenv follows semantic versioning. While the project is in its 0.x series the API is not yet stable, so minor releases may contain breaking changes; these are always listed under Changed or Removed below.

0.4.0 — 2026-09-19

A rename of the growth models and addition of MultiALD model.

Added

  • Added MultiALD model comprising multiple independent reaction pathways

Changed

  • Breaking: the growth models have been renamed. SimpleALD is now SingleALD, SimpleALDSoft is now SoftSatALD, and SimpleALDCVD is now SingleALDCVD. Their arguments and behaviour are unchanged, so updating a script is a matter of renaming the classes. The environments in aldenv.envs.steadystate are unaffected.
  • Breaking: the aldenv.models.simple module is now called aldenv.models.ideal. Importing the models from aldenv.models continues to work unchanged; only code that imported from the module directly has to be updated.
  • ALDProcess, the base class the environments derive from, now lives in its own aldenv.envs.aldprocess module and can be imported from aldenv.envs. It is still reachable from aldenv.envs.steadystate, so no existing import has to change.

0.3.0 — 2026-08-22

A rename of the steady-state environments, and a documentation site that now includes this page.

Added

  • This Updates page, published as part of the documentation site.
  • A tutorial section on upstream consumption, showing how a non-zero toff1 displaces the whole FastFast saturation curve without changing the saturated growth per cycle.

Changed

  • Breaking: the doseoptim module is now called steadystate, which better describes what these environments represent: processes measured once growth has reached steady state. Update imports from aldenv.envs.doseoptim to aldenv.envs.steadystate. Class names and their arguments are unchanged, and no other module is affected.
  • The documentation site is now built with Zensical rather than MkDocs and Material for MkDocs, so pip install aldenv[docs] now pulls in zensical. mkdocs.yml is deliberately kept in MkDocs format, so pip install mkdocs mkdocs-material still builds the site.
  • The toff1 and toff2 docstrings now describe the offsets as dose time consumed upstream of the sample, matching how they are documented in the tutorial. Behaviour is unchanged.

0.2.0 — 2026-07-27

First release with published documentation, and a broader set of knobs for making the virtual processes behave less ideally.

Added

  • A documentation site at aldsim.github.io/aldenv, built from docs/ and published automatically on every push to main. It covers the motivation for the project and a tutorial with worked saturation curves.
  • Dose time offsets on every process. toff1 and toff2 model the fraction of each dose consumed upstream of the sample — by reactor walls and other surfaces the precursor and coreactant meet on the way in — so that a dose shorter than its offset produces no growth at all. The default of 0 reproduces the previous behaviour.
  • A VerySlowSlow environment, for a process whose precursor kinetics are an order of magnitude slower than SlowSlow.

0.1.0 — 2026-07-21

0.0.1 — 2026-05-17

  • Initial release, with the SimpleALD, SimpleALDCVD and SimpleALDSoft growth models.
